India’s Performance
  • In the latest Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) 2024 by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), India has earned a place in the Tier-1 category.
  • India, with a ranking of 98.49, is one of 47 countries acknowledged for its dedication to implementing robust cybersecurity measures.
  • The GCI highlighted India's implementation of decisive cybersecurity actions across all critical areas.
Measures which Boost India’s Performance
  • As per the GCI 2024 report, India stood out in the legal pillar by creating a strong legal framework to regulate and enhance cybersecurity.
  • In this context, the Information Technology Act (2000) and its revisions are pivotal, providing comprehensive guidelines to tackle cybercrime, protect vital infrastructure, and uphold data privacy.
  • Moreover, the enactment of the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill (2022) further fortifies India's legal framework by offering improved protections for citizen data.
