The inaugural batch of Cyber Commandos has completed training at IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation. Designed for law enforcement, the program enhances cybersecurity expertise and boosts India's cybercrime response.
As part of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs’ efforts, the ‘Cyber Commandos’ program is designed to create an elite cyber force and reinforce India’s digital security.
On April 1, 2025, IIT Madras hosted a formal valedictory event for 37 trained officers. Distinguished attendees included Dr. Sandeep Mittal, IPS, ADGP (Cyber Crime Wing), Tamil Nadu, Dr. Shankar Ram, CEO, and Mr. Balamurali Shankar, Chief Knowledge Officer of Pravartak.
Congratulating the officers, Professor V Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, emphasized the valuable insights and hands-on expertise they gained. Ms. Roopa M, IPS, Director of TAU (Threat Analytics Unit), I4C, pointed out the urgent need for a highly skilled team to manage emerging cyber threats.
ENHANCING INDIA's CYBER DEFENSE CAPABILITIES
Spearheaded by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, the Cyber Commandos initiative is a step toward fortifying India's cybersecurity. Unlike conventional cybercrime cells that act after an attack, Cyber Commandos will work proactively to prevent cyber threats.
Participants in the program learned essential and advanced cybersecurity concepts such as network security, digital forensics, ethical hacking, and cyber threat intelligence. Training included real-world cyber threats, live simulations, and legal frameworks for cybercrime enforcement.
This program plays a crucial role in strengthening India's cyber defense, providing law enforcement with the necessary tools to combat modern digital threats.
