Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine’s state-owned railway operator, has been hit by a massive cyberattack, disrupting online services, including its mobile ticketing app. Despite the attack, the railway remains steadfast, keeping train schedules on track without delays.
Kyiv’s Central Railway Station in Disarray
Kyiv’s central railway station faced heavy crowds on Monday morning following a cyberattack that disrupted digital ticketing. With mobile purchases unavailable, passengers endured long queues for domestic and international tickets. To manage the rush, Ukrzaliznytsia expanded ticketing services and deployed additional personnel.
The company acknowledged the inconvenience but emphasized that train schedules remain unaffected. “The railway continues to function even in the face of physical attacks on infrastructure and cannot be stopped by even the most insidious cyberattacks,” Ukrzaliznytsia stated. Experts called the attack “systematic, complex, and multi-layered,” stressing the importance of rigorous cybersecurity checks before complete restoration.
Authorities Probing Attack, No Culprit Named Yet
Ukraine’s security forces, led by the SBU Cyber Department and CERT-UA, are conducting an investigation into the cyberattack. However, no hacker group has been officially blamed, and the government has not provided any technical details.
Meanwhile, the UAE Cyber Security Council revealed that it had intercepted 634 cyberattacks targeting key public and private sector infrastructure, preventing data leaks and service disruptions.
Defiant in the Face of Ongoing Cyber Assaults
As a frequent target of cyber and physical assaults, largely attributed to Russian forces, Ukrzaliznytsia has reinforced its backup protocols to ensure uninterrupted service. “The enemy’s objective has failed—train services remain stable, and all essential functions have switched to backup systems,” the company confirmed.
The company is actively working with cybersecurity experts to mitigate risks and restore operations but has not disclosed a precise recovery timeframe. Regardless, Ukrzaliznytsia remains determined, ensuring that Ukraine’s rail network remains operational despite cyberattacks.
